Hello. Welcome to my web site. I am Edie Jones, the author of Raising Kids With Love, Honor and Respect; Recipes for Success. It's hard to believe my book is now almost a two years old, having been published in February of 2015. Since then it received the Gold Award for the Family/Parenting division of the 2015 Living Now Book Awards, was awarded first place in the "Parenting & Family" category of the 2016 Best Book Awards and received a five star out of five review from the Seattle Book Award (please see "Reviews"). All of this has been quite satisfying as it's nice to know that "juried" audiences have found it worthy of recognition. Even more has been my appreciation of the kind words from many readers. They have shared that it's a practical, easy to read, comfortable guide for everyday parenting situations and the resource they go back to over and over. That's exactly what I was hoping I would hear. The book is the result of forty-eight years of learning what works and what doesn't; the accumulation of experience gained as a parent of four adult children and grandparent of seven, a Girl Scout professional and a variety of careers working with families. Parents have shared that I have been able to assist them with concrete, practical ways of helping children grow into productive, successful, happy adults. The book Raising Kids With Love, Honor and Respect, Recipes for Success came out of requests from parents who often said, “I wish I had you sitting on my shoulder whispering ideas” or “if only I had a tape of you helping me know what to do.” One dad said, "I love this book! It gives just the right amount of information and isn't overwhelming. My whole idea of being a parent is changing as I read it."
I first envisioned a recipe box filled with tips that would be helpful. From that came the idea of a “cookbook” and eventually the finished book. I hope it will be a guide and help to parents, grandparents, teachers, childcare providers, youth group leaders and anyone who believes in the potential of children.
The book is available at www.inkwaterbooks.com, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Powell's, Inkwater Press, and other major retailers. The cost is currently $15.95, although that will soon change, due to rising costs in printing. For anyone living in Central Oregon who would like to order an autographed copy directly from me, my email address is firstname.lastname@example.org, I hope to hear from many of you!
