Hello. Welcome to my web site. I am Edie Jones, the author of Raising Kids With Love, Honor and Respect; Recipes for Success. It's hard to believe my book is now almost a five years old, having been published in February of 2015. Since then it received a Gold Award for the Family/Parenting division of the Living Now Book Awards, was awarded first place in the "Parenting & Family" category of the Best Book Awards and received a five star out of five review from the Seattle Book Award (please see "Reviews"). And, I also received a silver award in the parent division of the Independent Book Publishers Award (IPPY).
All of this has been quite satisfying as it's nice to know that "juried" audiences have found it worthy of recognition along with hearing from many parents and educators. The book is the result of forty-eight years of learning what works and what doesn't, accumulated form my experience as a parent of four adult children and a variety of careers working with families. (See About Edie) Even though it's been available for a while I don't think you'll find it dated or not still relevant. It is still available at www.inkwaterbooks.com, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Powell's, Inkwater Press, and other major retailers. For those who would like to order directly from me, my email address is email@example.com, I'd love to hear from you.
Soon to join it is my newest book. Walker: A Journey from Puppy to Dog is a book about a very special pet. Walker is a Golden Doodle who joined our family in 2017. When my husband Ted was diagnosed with diabetes, he needed to move more and Walker’s job was to get him walking outside. He brought Ted great delight as he grew from a puppy into a big dog. Ted passed away in 2019 and Walker is now my dog, continuing to provide me with much comfort and joy.
As Walker grew I documented his first years through poetry, recognizing similarities between raising a child and a pet. From my experience working with children I noticed how each phase of Walker’s life paralleled that of an infant, toddler, and even a teen! As such, each of the poems introduces an important principle of learning and development. I conclude the book with tips that will be useful to both pet and people parents, hoping to again offer support that will help the “children” they love grow and thrive.
In creating the book I enlisted the help of my friend Jeni Kelleher, a pastels artist. By capturing the essence of each poem in stunning illustrations, she has dramatized Walker’s life, causing him to “weasel” his way into your heart and making you fall in love.
I hope you will search out Walker, A Journey from Puppy to Dog. It is a book to read to children, for older kids to enjoy on their own and for dog lovers of all breeds. And, it is a parenting book with clear examples of some of the most important principles needed to help children reach their potential.
